"This ladies and gentlemen, is the day you have all been waiting for! The day that took months, or in my case years, of planning, hard work, lots of late nights, and a few tears to pull off. But now it's here, so tomorrow, we will be able to breathe again! Can I get an amen?!"
Calli smiled as her best friend, the bride Allyson, and Allyson's dad gave a loud,
"AMEN!"
"Seriously though Allyson, it was all worth it, you look beautiful," Calli said as she looked at her best friend in all her bridal beauty.
Allyson stood serene and beautiful in a flowing A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline, that gracefully showed off her trim figure. Her light brown hair was half up and hung in shiny curls. The dainty diamond pendant from her grandmother matched perfectly with the glittery beading at her waistline. The most perfect accessory, however, was her smile. Her smile told the story everyone already knew, the story of true love and joy that was going to begin its next chapter today. Nothing could have phased Allyson. She was all eyes for her beloved, even though she hadn't even seen him in his groom getup yet. Knowing her though, she was daydreaming about it right then. Calli looked around the room and discovered that she wasn't the only one who was smiling at Allyson's bridal bliss. In fact, everyone, the father of the bride, herself and all four bridesmaids were captivated with the bride, like every wedding guest should be. Ally's dad's choked-up voice broke the spell.
"Ally-gator, it's about time we get in formation."
Allyson took one look at her father and said,
"Daddy. Don't cry! I love you and Spencer loves me. And they invented cell phones," Allyson said, smiling, but blinking back tears as well. Calli decided to distract them. She didn't want Allyson's mascara to smear.
"Hey guys! Does everyone have their flowers? I will go check to see if the guys are ready."
The plan worked and everyone was once again in a happy flutter, making sure all the last minute details were in place. Calli walked across her backyard to the "Mancave" tent, which is what the girls had dubbed the guys' dressing room.
"Hey! Knock knock! Its Calli and I just came to make sure everything was bueno." Calli called out, standing next the tents flappy canvas "door."
"Come in!" A voice she recognized as belonging to the best man called back.
"Hey are you guys all set cuz we-" Calli stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the groom.
"Spencer! You are still in your street clothes! Why aren't you dressed?" Calli demanded, flipping out over the athletic shorts and t-shirt the groom still had on.
"I still have, like 15 minutes and I don't like tuxes." Spencer replied, looking totally satisfied with his excuse.
"15 minutes if you are planning on getting dressed at the alter!" Calli replied, on the verge of yelling.
"Hey, Calli, I have my tux on," Justin, the best man, said, smirking.
"Usually, sucking up doesn't work but in this case...you are my favorite," Calli said, smiling back. She turned back to the groom. "Please follow your best friends lead and get dressed," she said to Spencer as she walked out. "At least his hair was combed," she muttered as soon as she was out of earshot. Calli walked back to the girl's tent and picked up her bouquet.
"Hey, how did the guys look?" Allyson asked excitedly.
"You mean, how did Spencer look?" Calli qualified, smiling unrepentantly as her best friend.
"Yeeeeeeeaaaaahhh," Allyson replied, a dreamy look on her face.
Calli laughed before delivering the news. "Actually, he didn't have on his tux yet. He insisted he still had 'like 15 minutes.'"
"Whaaatt!!!! 15 minutes if he is gonna get dressed in front of all the guests at the alter! I have to go talk to him," Allyson said, starting to walk out door of the tent.
"NO! Not yet!" Calli exclaimed, pulling Allyson back into the tent.
"Why not!"
"Its bad luck," Calli said seriously.
".....Meh," Allyson replied, accepting that Calli was right.
"You can speak to him about it tonight...but I have a feeling you will be a liiiiittle preoccupied," Calli said, smirking.
Allyson laughed in an already-preoccupied manner.
"Alright you guys, I am gonna see if the guys got their clothing issues straightened out and when I come back we will pair up and walk down the aisle," Calli said after getting everyone in the order in which they were going to march down the white runner. She walked over to the guy's tent one more time, as fast as she could in the spring green floor-length dress Allyson had picked for her, as the maid of honor, to wear. Calli was relieved to find Spencer waiting outside, this time, in the proper clothing for a wedding.
"I know you so well Calli," Spencer said dryly when he caught sight of her in her woman-on-a-mission state.
"You better thank me, Ally almost came over here to give her opinion on your previous choice of clothes," Calli said, trying to still look serious, but completely failing.
"You should have let her! What does she look like?"
"No one will ever doubt that they are a perfect match," Calli said to herself, recalling the earlier conversation she had with Allyson. Then she said to Spencer,
"Imagine how pretty you think she looks.....and then imagine something ten times better than that, and you will know what she looks like. Now, go, wait at the alter for your bride."
Spencer smiled his adorable I-am-so-lucky-to-be-in-love-smile and hustled off to wait at the alter for his beloved. Calli smiled after him and turned to the guys waiting just inside the door of the tent.
"C'mon guys! It's time." Calli said to the five athletic men standing in front of her, looking awkward in their tuxes, but handsome nonetheless. The groomsmen smiled and followed her across the backyard. Calli popped her head inside the girls' tent and flashed a smile at everyone.
"Showtime!" She said to the bridesmaids and the parents, who were nearly jumping up and down with excitement. Exactly 52 seconds later, she had all twelve people in the wedding party lined up and ready to go.
"Let's move out!" She called before taking her place at the front of the line, the best man Justin on one side and the cherubic flower girl on the other. Justin reached over and linked arms with her.
"You know, we don't have to walk like that until we walk down the aisle," Calli said, smiling up at Justin.
"Eh, I think we're ok," Justin replied, smiling back. Soon the beautifully dressed parade was at the arch where the runner started. Calli leaned her head around the corner and nodded to the pianist, before removing her button that said "I AM IN CHARGE!" She turned around and gave thumbs up to the rest of the wedding party and started the walk down the aisle on Justin's arm. The guests, all dressed in their finest, turned around to watch the procession. The day was perfect for Allyson's outdoor wedding. That day, the grass seemed greener and the sky seemed bluer than they had been any other day that June. The sun was bright, but not too harsh, and the few clouds in the sky added to the picturesque atmosphere. The tree under which Allyson and Spencer and fallen in love, that Spencer now stood under, was dressed in pink, green and white ribbon. The two arches on either side of the tree were covered in small pink roses, whose green stems had been expertly attached to the white lattice. Calli smiled for the millionth time that day as she let go of Justin's arm and took her place in front of the arch on the bride's side. She kept her soft little smile as she watched the other attendants slowly walk down the aisle. Soon, the wedding march started and Allyson and her dad came down the white runner. Calli outright grinned. She had already seen Allyson, but that didn't stop Calli from being awe-struck when she saw her best friend. Calli looked over at the groom and smiled bigger. Spencer looked completely love-struck. She half expected little pink hearts to circle around his head and his eyes to bug out, like in all the cartoons. Instead, Spencer just stood there, grinning ear to ear, staring at Allyson with an "I-cannot-believe-I-am-so-lucky gleam in his eyes. Allyson stared right back at her incredibly handsome soon-to-be-husband. When Allyson reached the tree, Calli took her bouquet and smiled at her best friend, who was too busy wrapped up in her and Spencer's love bubble to notice anything. The crowd fell silent as the pastor started the ceremony. Calli didn't hear much of the pastor's speech. She was too busy thinking. Thinking of how wonderfully she had planned everything, thinking of how amazing everything was going, and thinking of how cute Ally and Spencer's kids would be. She tuned back in when Spencer was saying his vows.
"Allyson, you are my princess, and I promise to always treat you like a princess. I will love, protect and cherish you all the way to happily ever after."
AWWWWW!!!! Calli thought, her smile growing. Soon, it was time to hand over the rings. Allyson took Spencer's ring from Calli and slipped it on her Spencer finger, repeating after the preacher.
"With this ring, I thee wed."
Spencer followed suit and slipped a white gold wedding band with diamonds set all around it on Ally's finger. The ring fit beautifully with the princess-cut diamond solitaire engagement ring he had given her three months before. The pastor smiled at the exchange and then raised his voice.
"I know pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride!"
Before the sentence was out of his mouth, Spencer had pulled Allyson close and kissed her with all the love and passion a groom should have for his bride. Midway through the deal-sealing kiss, Spencer picked Allyson up and swung her around, like a fairytale bride. When Allyson's feet were once again on solid ground and Spencer pulled away, the crowd stood and gave the couple a standing ovation. Spencer thought that called for another kissed and he dipped Allyson low before bringing his lips to hers.
yay for happily ever afters!
